BACKGROUND

An amazing group of collaborators led by The Leap’s Avi Lewis came together to create A Message from the Future with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (2019) and Message from the Future II: The Years of Repair (2020), films that bring to life how we could build a better society out of these years of overlapping crisis.

Message I, co-written with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, envisions everyday life in the U.S. after a Green New Deal; it’s been viewed over 12M times across platforms, was nominated for an Emmy award, and became a centerpiece of The Sunrise Movement’s 250-city Road to a Green New Deal tour in 2019.

The 2020 sequel, The Years of Repair, is co-written with Movement for Black Lives’ Opal Tometi, and brings to life a future where the lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic and global uprisings against racism have driven us to build back a better society. It features an all-star cast of narrators and launched in seven languages, with a dozen movement partners.

We made these films to help dream the boldest demands of our movement allies to life, and to help people clearly imagine the better world we could win through collective struggle.
